Keynsham Light Opera Group is a popular amateur dramatics society, based in Keynsham, near Bristol. The group has a large active membership and regular audience following, staging two major productions each year, generally musicals and cabarets.

The group approached Blobble for creative input in staging their productions, following our Rose Bowl Award winning success in 2009.

Following initial planning meetings, Blobble set about creating a visual identity for the group’s latest production of the Tommy Steele musical, ‘Half a Sixpence’. The group wanted a vibrant, colourful design, which on paper would attract the attention of the public, but at the same time reflecting the highly professional standard of the group and their previous productions. Once an agreed design concept had been created, Blobble then applied it to several different formats.

An A4 poster was created which would be distributed around shops, businesses and public spaces around the town of Keynsham, and beyond. In addition to the poster, a scaled-down version was created to act as a flyer, with a ‘booking form’ printed on the reverse. We created the booking form so that it was visually connected with the main flyer design, but was simple, informative and cleanly presented. We sourced the printing of both the posters and flyers. For this production, Blobble also created ‘business cards’, using the same design concept, to advertise within shops, pubs and clubs throughout the local area. The design was two-sided, containing all the relevant ticket information, as well as a short description of the show. Again we sourced a large print run for the business cards.

Finally, we were asked to design the Souvenir Programme for the production week. Blobble put forward a complete design concept change from the group’s previous programmes, to include character biographies, production history and rehearsal photographs. The design proposal was accepted and we set about compiling the information required and working on the page layouts – this involved direct liaison with the cast, committee and production team. We worked very closely with the group throughout the rehearsal period to ensure the programme matched their high production standards. Blobble sourced quotations for printing the programme from several different local suppliers, and co-ordinated the printing thereafter.
